HKUPOP uploads “The Chief Executive Election Vote Count Projection Calculator” to “POP Site” for public use

The Public Opinion Programme (POP) at The University of Hong Kong carried out “early vote count” at some elections in the past years. In accordance with the principle of “data and methodology sharing”, POP will share “The Chief Executive Election Vote Count Projection Calculator” with the general public this year to help those interested to forecast the result before the vote-counting procedures are completed. The Projection Calculator has already been uploaded on “POP Site” (https://hkupop.pori.hk/chinese/resources/ceecal.html), the public and media are welcome to use it.

The instructions for using “The Chief Executive Vote Count Projection Calculator” are as follows:

1) Before the counting starts, fill in the total number of votes cast.

2) Update the number of counted votes in the blue boxes corresponding to each candidate as counting progresses.

3) When the number of votes counted exceeds 100, the candidate who gets a minimum of 601 projected votes (in the corresponding yellow box) can be considered “statistically elected”.
