Survey method

Telephone survey conducted by female telephone interviewers

 

Target population

:

Cantonese-speaking Hong Kong female citizens of age 18-45 who are married or in a relationship with a stable partner

 

Sampling method

:

Telephone numbers were selected randomly from residential telephone directories and mixed with additional numbers generated by the computer. If more than one eligible subject had been available, the one who had her birthday next was selected.

 

Sample size

:

502 successful cases

 

Effective response rate

:

78.2%

 

Std. sampling error

:

At 95% confidence level, the maximum sampling error of all percentages should be no more than +/-4.5 percentage points


2) Booster Sample

Telephone survey conducted by female telephone interviewers

 

Target population

:

Cantonese-speaking Hong Kong female citizens of age 18-45 who are married or in a relationship with a stable partner, and planning for pregnancy

 

Sampling method

:

Telephone numbers were selected randomly from residential telephone directories and mixed with additional numbers generated by the computer. If more than one eligible subject had been available, the one who had her birthday next was selected.

 

Sample size

:

304 successful cases (116 successful cases from the main sample)

 

Effective response rate

:

70.6%
