Research Background

Sharing Economy Alliance commissioned Public Opinion Programme (POP) of The University of Hong Kong to conduct a public opinion poll related to innovative technology and sharing economy. The objectives of the survey were to comprehend public perception towards innovative technology and sharing economy in Hong Kong, to evaluate the performance of the Innovation and Technology Bureau, and to collect feedback to relevant policy suggestions. The survey also provides research findings which provide the government and those who are concerned about the development of innovative technology in Hong Kong a reference to introducing new technologies and the development of sharing economy in future.

Target population

:

Hong Kong citizens aged 18 or above

Sampling method

:

Invitation emails with a link to the online questionnaire and a unique passcode were sent to all households in the “POP Panel” database with valid emails provided (5,220 in total).

11.5%

Standard error

:

Less than 2.0% (i.e. at 95% confidence level, the maximum sampling error of all percentages should be no more than +/-3.9 percentage points)

Weighting method

:

Raw data have been rim-weighted according to provisional figures obtained from the Census and Statistics Department regarding the gender-age distribution of the Hong Kong population in 2016 year-end and the educational attainment (highest level attended) distributions collected in the 2011 Census.
