HKU POP invites people to count July 1 rally participantsBack

The Public Opinion Programme (POP) at the University of Hong Kong today releases via its "PopCon" electronic platform all video clips recorded by POP on July 1, 2011 at its July 1 Rally headcount check point. People can freely download these clips and run their own head counts.

"PopCon" is an electronic platform which integrates social-networking, entertainment, shopping and education (SESE) activities. It was official launched on February 23, 2011, and has registered more than 10,000 clicks by now. Its address is http://popcon.hk.

Other than providing the video clips of July 1,"PopCon" will also host a game"July 1 Count Count Count" in the coming two weeks, in order to invite users submit their own head count estimates, as well as to explain their own methods, so as to consolidate collective wisdom.

Director of POP Robert Chung considers the apparent conflict between science and democracy to be unnecessary, and scientific enquiry should not be entangled with any political ideology. Nevertheless, if there is really a conflict, all social scientists must choose science first and remain objective.
