Updates for “6.22 Civil Referendum”Back

The mock voting and pre-registration exercise of the “6.22 Civil Referendum” operated by the Public Opinion Programme (POP) at The University of Hong Kong has come to an end. Amidst severe DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks, the system still recorded 37,202 mock votes and pre-registrations. Thank you Hong Kong people.

“6.22 Civil Referendum” will officially start at noon tomorrow. Network service company CloudFlare has already raised its defense to the top level, by increasing the number of dedicated servers to cope with any attack, in order to facilitate smooth voting using web and mobile applications starting tomorrow. POP will monitor the system closely, and reacts quickly.

After voting starts, POP will announce the voter turnout hourly via its website. However, if the site is down, it would use other channels like fax, Facebook, and so on to release such figures on an irregular basis. (Note: The “PopSite” is still down after DDoS attack, so this release can only be dispatched by fax and other means.)
