Survey MethodBack

The entire survey was conducted by telephone interviewers under close supervision. Target population being Cantonese speakers in Hong Kong of age 18 or above, who have watched or listened to the Political Reform Debate for more than 5 minutes.

Interviews were conducted starting from 6:40 pm, or five minutes after the beginning of the debate. Target sample size of the survey was set at 500 successful cases or more.

Telephone numbers used in the survey were first selected randomly from telephone directories as seed numbers. Another set of numbers was then generated by using the plus/minus one/two method. Duplicate numbers were then screened out, and the remaining numbers mixed in a random order to become the final sample.

Upon successful contact with a target household, one member of the household present, who had watched or listened to the Political Reform Debate for more than 5 minutes, was selected using the "next birthday" rule.
