	問：台獨是一個在政治上非常敏感的問題，民研計劃為什麼要進行調查？ Q: The independence of Taiwan is politically very sensitive. Why does HKUPOP conduct surveys on it? 答：只要是有參考價值的問題，不論其政治敏感程度如何，民研計劃都不會迴避。民研計劃在1993年啟動台灣問題的民意調查，目的在於測試香港巿民對國家民族問題的認識和意見。同類測試還包括了香港巿民對台灣政府的信任程度，和對藏獨問題的取態，以往都有透過《民意快訊》發表，在適當時候亦會加到《民意網站》。(初版：2006年6月22日新聞公報之附加資料) A: HKUPOP will not avoid any issue just because it is politically sensitive, the only test is whether the data is useful. Since 1993, HKUPOP has been conducting opinion surveys on Taiwan issues, in order to gauge Hong Kong people's knowledge and opinions on different national issues. Other surveys under the same area include people's trust in the Taiwanese government, and their opinion on Tibet independence. Findings from these questions have been reported in our POP Express in the past, and will be added to our POP Site in due course. 	問：香港巿民身分認同的調查中，為什麼沒有「既是香港人、也是中國人」的選項？ Q: In the survey of Hong Kong people's ethnic identity, why is there not a choice of "both a Hong Kong and Chinese Citizen"? 答：在有關調查中，四個選項中有「中國的香港人」和「香港的中國人」兩個，其實已經包涵了「既是香港人、也是中國人」的概念，兩者可以合二為一後再與其他選項比較。不過，這些選項都可能因為意識重疊而未能反映各項身分認同的強弱。因此，民研計劃會同時以0至10分單項測試市民對「香港人」及「中國人」的認同程度。這種方法其實可以進一步推廣到同步測試巿民對「廣東人」、「新界人」、「文化人」、「普通人」等的認同程度，應用範圍極廣。(初版：2006年5月2日新聞公報之附加資料) A: For this survey, the two choices "Chinese Hong Kong Citizen" and "Hong Kong Chinese Citizen" among the four have actually encompassed the idea of "both a Hong Kong and Chinese Citizen", and can be collapsed as such. However, due to conceptual overlapping of all these choices, they may not truly reflect the strength and weakness of different identities. HKUPOP has therefore conducted parallel measurements on the strengths of people's separate identities as "Hong Kong Citizens" and "Chinese Citizens" using a scale of 0-10. This kind of measurement can in fact be extended to measure people's identification with "Cantonese", "Chinese Citizens", "Cantonese", "people from the New Territories", "cultured people", "ordinary people", and so on.
