Project Plan for District Council 2003 Election StudiesBack

Project DC03 is the first research project undertaken by the HKU Student Research Team. The Team aims at recruiting 100 student researchers, who are highly recommended to join in pairs. Researchers would work in pairs and monitor campaign activities at selected District Council constituencies. All student researchers who complete the project successfully will receive a certificate.

A briefing session which will be held in CYM G01 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on November 7 (Fri) and two seminars will be held at later dates. On November 23, the Team will conduct election day observations and exit polls. The project will end before December 5 and the study report will be released in mid-December. Herewith an outline of the tasks to be undertaken by the researchers:

Task 1

Working in pairs to monitor campaign activities at selected DC constituencies. This includes visiting the constituency, taking photographs of campaign activities, banners, posters, billboards, collecting leaflets, recording people's response, etc.

Task 2

Working in pairs to attend, observe and record forums at selected constituencies. This involves talking to candidates and participants before or after such forums, dropping field notes, etc.

Task 3

Working in pairs on election day (23 Nov 03) to observe and record election-related activities, as well as to interview actual voters outside selected polling stations.

Task 4

Putting all observations and field notes on-line at a project website accessible by all Team members. Everyone shares the observation of every other.
